CANCEL THE PITY PARTIES

Tell the people: “Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, when you will eat meat. The Lord heard you when you wailed, ‘If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!’”

—NUMBERS 11:18

The Israelites often grumbled and complained as they journeyed through the wilderness toward the Promised Land. Throughout Numbers 11, they were unhappy. They even decided they were better off in Egypt—where they were forced into manual labor. They were involved in an all-out pity party.

No doubt the Israelites’ travels through the wilderness were inconvenient at times, but instead of thanking God for liberating them from slavery in Egypt and appreciating the manna He sent from heaven to feed them each day, they felt sorry for themselves.

If we want to be strong in the Lord, we must not allow self-pity in our lives. Circumstances will not always be what we want them to be, but we can always find a reason to thank and praise God. God was leading the Israelites to a good land, a land flowing with milk and honey (Leviticus 20:24), but getting there had its challenges.

God is leading you to a good place too. You may be struggling right now as His plan for your life unfolds, but stay positive and confident in God. Don’t complain or attend a pity party. Stay focused on God’s promises, and appreciate all He does for you along the way.

Prayer:

“Father, I choose to rejoice instead of complain and to be glad instead of feeling sorry for myself. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
