Lo que has hecho es una locura. No obedeciste lo que el Señor tu Dios te ordenó hacer. Si hubieras obedecido, el Señor habría confirmado para siempre tu reinado sobre Israel.

Saúl estaba harto de esperar. Se suponía que Samuel iba a ir a ocuparse de la ofrenda, pero no había aparecido. Las personas empezaban a marcharse, y Saúl decidió encargarse él. ¿Cuál es el problema?, pensó probablemente. Saúl imaginó que podría hacerse cargo del sacrificio igual de bien que Samuel. Lo reunió todo y se ocupó del asunto.
Entonces se presentó Samuel. «¿Qué has hecho?», le preguntó el profeta.
Saúl era culpable. Había sido demasiado impaciente y había asumido el trabajo que Dios le había asignado a samuel, como si no tuviera importancia.
Dios le había proporcionado éxito al rey en varias ocasiones, de modo que Saúl pensó que podía hacer lo que le pareciera bien. Se creyó demasiado. Lo mismo nos puede ocurrir a nosotros. Tal vez Dios nos haga exitosos en los deportes, así que empezamos a actuar como un sabelotodo en el vestuario. O quizás nos dé la oportunidad de ser el líder de la clase, y empezamos a actuar como si fuéramos el rey del mundo. Es fácil dejar que se nos suban los humos a la cabeza cuando Dios abre una puerta como esa.
Para evitar que nos hinchemos de orgullo como Saúl, es necesario que recordemos de dónde proceden todos nuestros éxitos y que mantengamos nuestros ojos en el Señor.
Oración
Señor, gracias por darme las aptitudes y las fuerzas. Ayúdame a recordar que vienen de ti y a no permitir que el éxito se me suba a la cabeza.
Day 298 Is Your Head Bigger
Than Your Heart? “You have done a foolish thing,” Samuel said. “You have not kept the command the LORD your god gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time.”
(1 SAMUEL 13:13)
Saul was tired of waiting. Samuel was supposed to come take care of the offering, but he hadn’t shown up. People were starting to leave, so Saul decided to take charge. “What’s the big deal?” he probably thought. Saul figured he could take care of the offering just as well as Samuel could. He gathered everything together and took care of business.
Then Samuel walked up. “What have you done?” Samuel asked.
Saul was guilty. He had been way too impatient and taken over Samuel’s God-given job like it was no big deal.
God had given Saul success in some areas, so Saul thought he could do whatever he wanted. He thought too much of himself. The same thing can happen to us. Maybe God gives us success in sports, so we start acting like a know-it-all in the locker room. Or he gives us the chance to be a leader in the classroom, and we start acting like king of the world. It’s easy to let stuff go to our head when God opens a door like that.
To keep from getting puffed up like Saul, we need to remember where all our success comes from and keep our eyes on the Lord.
Prayer
God, thank you for giving me skills and strengths. Help me to remember where they come from and not to let success go to my head.
