Luego el ángel tomó el incensario y lo llenó con brasas del altar, las cuales arrojó sobre la tierra; y se produjeron truenos, estruendos, relámpagos y un terremoto.

«Me habría muerto de vergüenza», dice tu hermana mayor al encontrar residuos de huevo en su cabello antes de ir a la escuela. Casi llamas al 9-1-1 pensando que se iba a morir. Solo es una expresión que ilustra lo mal que se sentiría.
Muchas cosas del libro de Apocalipsis son expresiones o ilustraciones de cosas que sucederán cuando Jesús regrese a la tierra. Las profecías incluyen muchas imágenes que parecen aterradoras o espantosas. El hombre que escribe sobre ellas no había visto nunca antes esas cosas, de modo que las describió con palabras e imágenes que tendrían sentido para las personas que leyeran su libro. Cuando Juan vio fuego, bestias o sangre, desconocemos qué estaba describiendo exactamente, qué palabras eran literales y cuáles eran meras expresiones.
Aunque no seamos capaces de interpretar todo lo que Juan vio en Apocalipsis, cuando Cristo vuelva será un día glorioso para todas las personas que siguen los preceptos de Dios. Y será tiempo de juicio para los que lo rechacen a él. De un modo u otro, estas profecías no pretenden asustarnos, sino ayudarnos a comprender la importancia que tiene hablarles a otros de Jesucristo.
Oración
Señor, no creo poder entender gran cosa de lo que aparece en Apocalipsis, pero no quiero sentirme asustado por el fin del mundo. Lo que sí entiendo es que volverás a llevarme a mí y a todos los creyentes al cielo contigo. Gracias por esa promesa.
Day 359 – Christ Will Return
Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.
(REVELATION 8:5)
“I would have died from embarrassment,” your older sister says about finding a piece of egg stuck in her hair before she got school. You wouldn’t call 9–1–1 thinking she’s going to die. It’s just an expression of how awful she would feel.
Many things in the book of Revelation are expressions or illustrations of things that will happen when Jesus comes back to Earth. The prophecies include many images that seem scary or frightening. The man writing about them had never seen these things before, so he described them with words and pictures that would make sense to the people who would read his book. When John saw fire or beasts or blood, we don’t know exactly what he was describing, such as which words were literal and which ones were expressions.
Though we may not be able to interpret all that John saw in Revelation, when Christ comes again, it will be a glorious day for all people who follow God’s ways. And it will be judgment time for those who reject God. Either way, these prophecies are not meant to scare us but to help us understand how important it is to tell others about Jesus Christ.
Prayer
God, I don’t think I can understand a lot of what’s in Revelation, but I don’t want to be scared of the end of the world. What I do understand is that you will come back to take me and all believers to Heaven with you. Thank you for that promise.
