No mirando cada uno por lo suyo propio, sino cada cual también por lo de los otros.

Los abusos que sufrí en mi infancia me hicieron temer que nadie nunca cuidaría de mí, así que hice la promesa en mi mente de que nunca iba a necesitar a nadie y de que cuidaría de mí misma. Fui egoísta, pero Jesús murió para que pudiéramos vivir libres de egoísmo y egocentrismo (2 Corintios 5:15).
Muchas personas tienen buenas vidas y aun así son infelices. La razón por la cual lo son, es porque son egoístas. No podemos ser egoístas y felices al mismo tiempo.
En Filipenses 4:5, Pablo dice a los Filipenses que ya que Jesús viene pronto, deberían ser más cuidadosos de no ser egoístas: “Vuestra gentileza sea conocida de todos los hombres. El Señor está cerca”. Este versículo nos ayuda a comprender lo vitalmente importante que es no permitirnos ser egoístas.
La experiencia me ha enseñado que puedo contraatacar al egoísmo con generosidad, solo que tengo que ser intencionalmente generosa. Nuestra inclinación natural es a hacer lo que es mejor para nosotros todo el tiempo pero, con la ayuda de Dios, podemos resistirnos a esa tentación y preocuparnos por los demás, del mismo modo que por nosotros mismos.
Oración:
“Padre, te amo y estoy agradecido por todo lo que has hecho por mí. Ayúdame a ser generoso como una forma de retribuir tu bondad. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén”.
AN UNSELFISH ATTITUDE
Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not [merely] his own interests, but also each for the interests of others.
—PHILIPPIANS 2:4 AMPC
My abusive childhood made me afraid that no one would ever take care of me, so I made a vow in my mind that I would never need anyone and that I would take care of myself. I was selfish, but Jesus died so we could be free from living selfish, self-centered lives (2 Corinthians 5:15).
Many people have great lives, yet they are unhappy. The reason they are not happy is that they are selfish. We cannot be selfish and happy at the same time.
In Philippians 4:5, Paul tells the Philippians that since Jesus is coming soon, they should be careful not to be selfish: “Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit). The Lord is near [He is coming soon]” (AMPC). This verse helps us understand how vitally important it is not to allow ourselves to become selfish.
Experience has taught me that I can fight selfishness with generosity, but I have to be generous on purpose. Our natural inclination is to do what is best for us at all times, but with God’s help, we can resist that temptation and be concerned for others as well as for ourselves.
Prayer:
“Father, I love You, and I am grateful for all You have done for me. Help me to be generous as a way of thanking You for Your goodness in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen
