Una virgen concebirá y dará a luz un hijo, y llamarás su nombre Emanuel, que traducido es: Dios con nosotros.

Alo largo de la historia, Dios ha parecido estar muy lejos de la mayoría de las personas. Aunque llegó a morar entre los israelitas en una columna de nube y fuego, luego en el tabernáculo y el templo, ellos seguían separados de la santa presencia del Señor y solo tenían una comprensión vaga e impersonal de Él.
Pero todo eso cambió cuando Jesús vino. El Señor ya no estaba distante; estuvo con nosotros personalmente, viviendo en la carne, sufriendo los mismos dolores, las mismas debilidades que experimentamos y comprendiendo cómo nos sentimos. Pero también mostró su poder como Dios todopoderoso curando enfermos, expulsando demonios, calmando tormentas y obteniendo la victoria final sobre el pecado y la muerte. Su mismo nombre, Jesús, significa «el Señor es salvación». Él no solo está con nosotros en nuestro sufrimiento, sino que también es el poder activo de liberación para tal sufrimiento.
Este es el Salvador que usted celebra en esta Navidad: Jesús, su Emanuel. No es una deidad distante, despreocupada o inconsciente de lo que enfrenta. Más bien, Él es el Dios que tiene intimidad con usted y obra activamente para ayudarle por medio de su perfecto poder y sabiduría. Por tanto, conózcalo y descanse en su cuidado.

Throughout history, God has appeared to be far away to most people. Even when He came to dwell among the Israelites in a pillar of cloud and fire, then in the tabernacle and temple, they were still separated from His holy presence and had only a vague and Impersonal understanding of Him.
But that all changed when Jesus came. The Lord was no longer distant; He was with us personally—living in flesh, suffering the same pains and weaknesses you and I experience, and understanding how we feel. Yet He also displayed His power as almighty God, healing the sick, casting out demons, calming the storms, and gaining the ultimate victory over sin and death. His very name—Jesus—means “the Lord is salvation.” He is not only with us in our suffering but is also the actively working force of deliverance from it.
This is the Savior you celebrate this Christmas—Jesus, your Immanuel. Not a deity who is distant, unconcerned, or unaware of what you face. Rather, He is the God who is intimately with you and actively working to help you in His perfect power and wisdom. So know Him and rest in His care.
