Y Jehová dijo a Abraham, después que Lot se apartó de él: Alza ahora tus ojos, y mira desde el lugar donde estás hacia el norte y el sur, y al oriente y al occidente.

Abraham (antes llamado Abram) y su sobrino Lot llegaron a un punto donde la tierra y sus recursos no eran adecuados para ambos, su gente y posesiones (Génesis 13:6). Abraham decidió que él y Lot debían separarse (Génesis 13:8-9) y permitió que Lot escogiera la tierra que quisiera. Lot seleccionó la mejor tierra.
Podríamos pensar que Abraham estaría decepcionado porque no obtuvo la mejor tierra, pero Dios habló con él sobre eso, como dice el versículo de hoy, y le dijo que le daría todo lo que podía ver en cada dirección. Incluso le prometió que sus hijos tendrían tierras (Génesis 13:15), a pesar de que en ese entonces Abraham no tenía hijos.
Abraham pudo haberse enfocado en el hecho que había perdido la mejor tierra, pero Dios no quería que él pensara en eso. Dios quería que mirara a su alrededor y viera una promesa mucho mayor que tierras fecundas para sus rebaños y manadas. Dios quería que él creyera en un gran y milagroso futuro.
No Importa lo que hayas perdido o si sientes que otras personas reciben algo mejor de lo que tienes, Dios tiene un futuro brillante para ti. No veas lo que dejaste atrás, observa a tu alrededor y ve la promesa de Dios.
Oración:
“Padre, ayúdame a no enfocarme en lo que he perdido. Ayúdame a levantar la mirada hacia ti con la visión en el corazón de todo lo que tienes para mí en el futuro. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén”.
LOOK AROUND
The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west.”
—GENESIS 13:14
Abram (later called Abraham) and his nephew Lot reached a point where the land and its resources were not adequate for both of them and all their people and possessions (Genesis 13:6). Abram decided that he and Lot should go their separate ways (Genesis 13:8–9) and let Lot choose the land he wanted. Lot chose the best place for himself.
We might think Abram would be disappointed that he did not get the best land, but God spoke to him about that in today’s scripture, telling Abram that He would give him everything he could see in every direction. He even promised the land to Abram’s offspring (Genesis 13:15), though at the time Abram had no children.
Abram could have focused on the fact that he lost out on the best land, but God did not want him to think about that. God wanted him to look all around and see a promise far greater than rich land for his flocks and herds. God wanted him to believe for a great and miraculous future.
No matter what you may have lost or whether you feel other people have gotten something better than you have, God has a great future for you. Don’t look at what’s behind you; look around you and see God’s promise.
Prayer:
“Father, help me not to focus on what I have lost. Help me to lift my eyes to You and have vision in my heart of all that You have for me in the future. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
