Y viendo de lejos una higuera que tenía hojas, fue a ver si tal vez hallaba en ella algo; pero cuando llegó a ella, nada halló sino hojas, pues no era tiempo de higos. Entonces Jesús dijo a la higuera: Nunca jamás coma nadie fruto de ti. Y lo oyeron sus discípulos.

Una de las historias de la Biblia que puede ser confusa para la gente, es la de la higuera. Se preguntan por qué Jesús la maldijo al punto de que se marchitara y secara. Creo que la razón es sencilla: no estaba cumpliendo con la función para la cual fue diseñada por Dios. Porque tenía hojas, igual debía dar frutos.
El día después de que Jesús maldijo el árbol, él y sus discípulos pasaron de nuevo cerca de él y los discípulos se sorprendieron al ver que había muerto. Cuando Jesús vio su reacción les dijo: “Tened fe en Dios” (Marcos 11:22). Luego continúa en Marcos 11:23-23 hablando del luminoso poder de la fe.
Como creyentes, tenemos la opción de objetar lo que Dios dice —de la forma en que los discípulos respondieron cuando Jesús les habló a la higuera— y sorprendernos cuando su Palabra se convierte en realidad, o bien, podemos llenarnos de fe. Cuando leamos la Palabra de Dios o escuchamos su voz, comencemos de inmediato esperar que suceda.
Llena tu mente hoy con pensamientos de fe y confianza en Dios, no con duda, cuestionamiento o curiosidad por lo que quiso decir. Cree en la Palabra de Dios y continúa creyendo, hasta que lo veas cumplir sus promesas.
Oración:
“Padre, que nunca me sorprenda cuando lo que digas realmente suceda. Que viva a la espera de tus movimientos y de que hagas lo que dijiste que harías. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén”.
EXPECT GOD TO MOVE
Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

One of the Bible stories that can be confusing to people is the story of the fig tree. They wonder why Jesus cursed it to the point that it withered and dried up. I think the reason is simple: It wasn’t doing what God designed it to do. Because it had leaves, it should have had fruit too.
The day after Jesus cursed the tree, He and His disciples passed it again, and the disciples were shocked to see that it had died. Seeing their shock, Jesus told them, “Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22). He then went on in Mark 11:23–24 to talk about the sheer power of faith.
As believers, we can choose to respond to what God says the way the disciples responded when Jesus spoke to the fig tree, and we can be surprised when His Word actually comes to pass. Or, we can be filled with faith. When we read God’s Word or hear His voice, we can immediately begin expecting it to happen.
Fill your mind today with thoughts of faith and confidence in God, not with thoughts of doubting Him, questioning Him, or wondering if He means what He says. Believe God’s Word, and keep believing it until you see Him fulfill His promises.

“Father, may I never be surprised when what You say actually happens. May I live looking for You to move and expecting You to do what You say You will do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
