Ya no hay judío ni griego; no hay esclavo ni libre; no hay varón ni mujer, sino que todos ustedes son uno en Cristo Jesús. (GÁLATAS 3.28, RVC)
Cuando Jesús era un niño pequeño que crecía en Nazaret, los hombres de la ciudad solían elevar una oración que decía algo así: «Señor, te doy gracias por no haberme creado gentil, perro ni mujer». ¿Puedes imaginarte ser una niña en aquel tiempo? Tú y la mascota de la familia habríais recibido el mismo trato. La mayoría de los hombres no eran tan amables con las mujeres, y algunos infortunados individuos eran esclavos; así era como hacían las cosas.
Pero cuando Jesús murió en la cruz y derrotó la muerte, redefinió las normas. Aunque la sociedad judía seguía todavía la vieja costumbre, en la iglesia las cosas eran diferentes. Los judíos y los que no lo eran se consideraban iguales. Lo mismo ocurría entre hombres y mujeres. Los esclavos y sus amos estaban al mismo nivel delante de Dios. Mucho antes de que Abraham Lincoln liberara a los esclavos estadounidenses, Jesús ofreció libertad a todo el mundo.
Aunque Dios considera a todas las personas iguales, nosotros no siempre actuamos como si esto fuera verdad. Esto ocurría en el Antiguo Testamento y sigue ocurriendo hoy día. Los niños que son diferentes en la escuela siguen siendo objeto de burla. Los que tienen necesidades especiales no son siempre tratados con el mismo respeto que los talentosos. Tampoco lo son aquellos que pertenecen a culturas diferentes. ¿Propagarás la libertad y el respeto ayudando a que Gálatas 3.28 llegue a ser una realidad donde tú vives?
Oración
Señor, te ruego que me perdones por actuar como si fuera mejor que los demás. Quiero que me uses para hacer los cambios para mejorar en mi escuela.
Day 355 – Oops, Did I Think That?
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (GALATIANS 3:28)
When Jesus was a little boy growing up in Nazareth, the men in town prayed a prayer that went like this: “Lord, I thank you that you didn’t create me a Gentile, a dog, or a woman.” Can you imagine being a girl back then? You and the family pet would have received equal treatment. Most men were not that nice toward women, and some unfortunate individuals were slaves—that’s just the way they did things.
But when Jesus died on the cross and then defeated death, he redefined the rules. Even though Jewish society still followed the old way, in the Church things were different. Jews and non-Jews were viewed as equal. So were men and women. Slaves and masters were on level ground before God. Long before Abraham Lincoln set American slaves free, Jesus offered freedom to everyone.
Although God views people as equal, we don’t always act as though it’s true. This happened in the Old Testament, and it still happens today. Kids who are different at school are still made fun of. Kids with special needs aren’t always treated with the same respect as gifted ones. Neither are those from different cultures. Will you spread freedom and respect by helping Galatians 3:28 become a reality where you live?
Prayer
Lord, please forgive me for acting as though I’m better than others. I want you to use me to make changes for the better in my school.
