Imagínate yendo a un lugar remoto del mundo como misionero. Las personas que viven en tan lejana nación hablan un idioma distinto. También comen alimentos que no te son familiares. Lo más probable es que la ropa que usan sea distinta de la tuya. Su forma de divertirse también es bastante distinta de la que tú acostumbras.
Es lo que Pablo descubrió cuando viajaba lejos de Jerusalén. Aunque era judío, Dios había llamado a Pablo para que fuera misionero a los no judíos en lugares donde la vida parece extraña. No obstante, Pablo entendió con rapidez una verdad importante, pero sencilla: si él iba a hablarles a las personas sobre Jesús, debía explicar las Buenas Nuevas de manera que las personas extranjeras las entendieran. Era necesario que vistiera como ellas, y que mostrara interés en cosas en las que ellas estaban interesadas. Aunque tales «maneras» no le resultaban naturales en realidad, se volvió como ellos con el fin de ganarlos para Dios.
Dios llama a cada uno de sus seguidores para que sea misionero hasta cierto punto, como en tu vecindario y en la escuela. Lo más probable es que las personas con las que quiere que tú entables amistad hablen tu idioma. Pero tienen intereses y pasatiempos diferentes a los tuyos. Pasa tiempo con ellos y aprende a convertirte en parte de su mundo. Luego puedes invitarlos a tu mundo para que vean de qué forma Jesús es parte de él.
Oración
Señor, resulta aterrador y emocionante pensar en mí mismo como un misionero del estilo de Pablo en la Biblia. ¿Cómo puedo ser uno bueno para mis amigos y mis vecinos?
Day 348 – Missionary Mindset
I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.
(1 CORINTHIANS 9:22B)
Imagine going to a remote part of the world as a missionary. The people who live in that far-away nation speak a different language. They also eat food that is unfamiliar to you. Chances are the clothes they wear are unlike yours. What they do for fun is quite different than what you are used to doing.
That’s what Paul discovered as he traveled far from Jerusalem. Although he was Jewish, God had called Paul to be a missionary to non-Jews in places where life seemed strange. But Paul was quick to understand an important but simple truth: if he was going to tell people about Jesus, he needed to explain the Good News in ways foreign people would understand. He needed to dress like them and show an interest in things they were interested in. Even though such “ways” weren’t really natural for him, he became like them in order to win them to God.
God calls every one of his followers to be a missionary to some degree, such as in your neighborhood and school. Most likely, the people he wants you to befriend speak your language. But they have interests and hobbies that are different than yours. Spend time with them to learn how to become part of their world. Then you can invite them into your world to see how Jesus is part of it.
Prayer
Lord, it’s scary and exciting to think of myself as a missionary like Paul in the Bible. How can I be a good one to my friends and neighbors?
