Los israelitas eran el pueblo escogido por Dios, pero esto no significa que fueran sus favoritos. En vez de esto, Israel servía como ejemplo práctico para demostrar el amor de Dios y su plan de salvación para la humanidad. Sin embargo, ellos no siempre le obedecieron. ¡Nop! La nación estaba llena de gente normal que cometía errores, incluido el de apartarse del Señor y de sus caminos.
Asaf, el escritor, contó esta historia de idas y venidas en el salmo 80. Primero, Dios liberó a su pueblo de los egipcios y los llevó a Canaán, la Tierra Prometida. Cuando confiaban en Dios y obedecían sus leyes, eran fuertes y poderosos. Cuando decidían deshacerse de él, él dejaba que se enfrentaran a las consecuencias.
Pero Asaf tenía esperanza. Sabía que por muchas veces que el pueblo se desviara, si pedía perdón Dios se lo concedería de buen grado. En vez de detestar a sus irritables y rebeldes hijos, él ama a cada nación y a todas las personas que en ellas habitan.
Independientemente de donde vivas, tu país necesita a Dios, igual que le ocurría a Israel. Tú puedes ser un mensajero de la verdad divina. ¿Cómo? Orando por tu país y sus líderes, edificando tu propia relación con Jesús y mostrando el amor de Dios.

Señor, igual que Israel, mi país se deshace algunas veces de ti. Te ruego que nos perdones. Permíteme ser alguien fiel a tus caminos y que muestre a los demás quién eres tú.
Day 337 – Messengers Needed
Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire; at your rebuke your people perish … Revive us, and we will call on your name.
(PSALM 80:16, 18)
The Israelites were God’s chosen people, but that doesn’t mean they were his favorites. Instead, Israel served as an object lesson to show God’s love and salvation plan for mankind. But they didn’t always obey God. Nope! Israel was filled with normal people who made mistakes, including turning away from the Lord and his ways.
The writer Asaph recounted this back-and-forth history in Psalm 80. First, God freed his people from the Egyptians and brought them into Canaan, the Promised Land. When they trusted God and obeyed his laws, they were strong and powerful. When they decided to ditch God, he let them face the consequences.
But Asaph had hope. He knew that no matter how many times people stray, if they ask for forgiveness, God will gladly grant it. Instead of detesting his cranky and rebellious children, God loves every country and all the people in them.
No matter where you live, your nation needs God—just like Israel did. You can be a messenger of God’s truth. How? By praying over your country and its leaders, building your own relationship with Jesus, and showing God’s love.
Prayer
God, like Israel, my country sometimes ditches you. Please forgive us. Let me be someone who is true to your ways and shows others who you are.
