¿Te gusta acampar o hacer senderismo? Tal vez te encantaría acampar durante todo el verano y desearías que tus padres te permitieran levantar una tienda de campaña en el patio trasero. Juan el Bautista hizo algo parecido. Su familia vivía cerca del desierto, en una zona de colinas abruptas y escabrosas. Juan permanecía en el desierto incluso cuando inició su ministerio de predicación. Comía insectos y miel silvestre. Vestía ropa muy sencilla. Es muy probable que durmiera al aire libre. Sin embargo, fue en el desierto donde Dios lo preparó para que se convirtiera en un profeta. Juan pasó su tiempo estudiando y preparándose para el ministerio.
De vez en cuando Dios les pide a sus seguidores que lo sirvan en condiciones extremas, como en plena naturaleza, en el desierto o en un país pobre y en decadencia. Este tipo de llamado por parte de Dios suele empezar pronto, exactamente como en el caso de Juan el Bautista. Estaba acostumbrado a vivir en el desierto y a buscar su propia comida.
¿Qué está haciendo Dios en tu vida hoy a fin de prepararte para más adelante? Si no lo sabes no importa. No obstante, si envía a tu familia al desierto, es posible que Dios tenga un llamamiento especial para ti, quizás para que les prediques a los que están en el desierto. Quizás estas personas no oirían hablar de Dios de otro modo.

¡Vaya, Señor! Sí que vivía Juan el Bautista en condiciones extremas. ¿Estoy yo hecho para un ministerio especial como el de él? Necesito que me prepares para cualquier llamado que tengas para mí.
Day 312 – Wilderness Camp
And the child grew and became strong in spirit; and he lived in the wilderness until he appeared publicly to Israel.
(LUKE 1:80)
Do you like camping or hiking? You might love camping all summer long and wish your parents would let you set up a tent in the backyard. John the Baptist did something like that. His family lived near the wilderness, an area of rugged rocky hills. John stayed in the wilderness even when he started his preaching ministry. He ate bugs and wild honey. He dressed in simple clothes. He probably even slept outside. But the wilderness is where God prepared John to become a prophet. John spent his time studying and preparing for ministry.
Occasionally, God asks his followers to serve him in extreme conditions, like in the wilderness or in the desert or in a poor, rundown country. This kind of call from God usually begins early in life, just like with John the Baptist. He was used to wilderness living and finding his own food.
What is God doing in your life today to prepare you for later? It’s okay if you don’t know. But if he sends your family to the wilderness, God may have a special calling for you one day to preach to those in the wilderness. They may not hear about God any other way.
Prayer
Wow, God. Those were extreme conditions that John the Baptist lived in. Am I cut out for a special ministry like that? I need your preparation for whatever calling you have for me.
