A cada uno le parece correcto su proceder, pero el SEÑOR juzga los motivos.

La mayoría de nosotros creemos ser buenos: «Yo escucho a mis padres, en la escuela me va bien; cuido de mis amigos. Por tanto, ¡debo de ser una buena persona!». Dios mira el corazón. Sabe si estamos siendo amables por amor o solo para conseguir gustarle a la gente. Él ve si estamos fingiendo o si de verdad queremos esforzarnos en la escuela. Él nos ama incluso cuando hacemos cosas buenas por razones egoístas, y usa esas buenas obras.
¿Pero cómo podemos saber si nuestros motivos son correctos? Pregúntate lo decepcionado que llegas a estar cuando alguien no te devuelve un favor ni te aplaude un por un trabajo bien hecho. Cuando te sientes desanimado por no haber conseguido nada a cambio de tu buena obra, quiere decir que detrás de todo lo que has hecho había motivos egoístas.
Dios quiere cambiar nuestro corazón para que sean sus motivos, y no los nuestros, los que nos guíen. Si le pedimos que nos muestra lo que hay de verdad en nuestro corazón, él nos indicará buenas acciones por las mejores razones: las suyas.
Oración
Señor, examina mi corazón. Quiero hacer lo correcto por las razones adecuadas. ¿Me ayudarás, por favor?
Day 269 • Motives of the Heart
All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD. (PROVERBS 16:2)
Most of us like to think we are good: “I listen to my parents; I do well in school; I look out for my friends. So I must be a good person!”
God looks at the heart. He knows whether we are being nice out of love or just to get people to like us. He knows if we’re trying to show off or if we really want to work hard at school. He loves us even when we do good things for selfish reasons, and he uses those good deeds.
But how do you know if your motives are right? Ask yourself how disappointed you are when someone doesn’t return a favor or applaud you for a job well done. When you are bummed because you didn’t get something in return for your good deed, that means selfish motives were likely behind it all.
God wants to change our hearts so that his motives guide us rather than our own. If we ask him to show us what’s really in our heart, he will point us toward good actions for the best reasons—his.
Prayer
Lord, look at my heart. I want to do the right thing for the right reasons. Will you please help me?
