Pero la turba gritó cada vez más fuerte, exigiendo que Jesús fuera crucificado, y sus voces prevalecieron. Entonces Pilato sentenció a Jesús a muerte como la gente reclamaba. Como habían pedido, puso en libertad a Barrabás, el que estaba preso por levantamiento y asesinato. Y les entregó a Jesús para que hicieran con él como quisieran.

Poncio Pilato era el pez gordo en Judea. Informó directamente al emperador de Roma. Era él quien tomaba todas las decisiones sobre prisioneros, crímenes y leyes en aquella tierra. Los judíos llevaron a Jesús ante Pilato con la esperanza de que este lo mandara ejecutar. Sin embargo el gobernador era un hombre listo. Investigó y no halló nada malo en Jesús. Los judíos seguían queriendo verle muerto, y no cedieron. Presionaron tanto a Pilato que acabó cediendo. Les permitió que ejecutara a Jesús.
La situación de Pilato era extrema, pero la presión de la multitud (lo que se conoce como presión social) era difícil de resistir. Incluso los temerosos gobernantes pueden derrumbarse ante una loca turba de personas exigentes. A medida que vas haciéndote mayor, te enfrentarás a este tipo de presión. De hecho, igual ya te ha sucedido, como cuando varios chicos se amontonan sobre otro y te obligan a unirte a ellos. Cuando eres el único que dice que no, la cosa se pone fea. Pero si te ciñes a tus creencias sobre el bien y el mal, podrías infundirle a otro el valor de decir que no también. Además, este tipo de fuerza procede de Dios. Te ayudará a resistir la presión social.
Oración
Jesús, no quiero que tiren de mí para hacer lo incorrecto o para perjudicar a otros por culpa de la presión de grupo. Ayúdame a ver cuándo es necesario que me aparte o que defienda lo que es correcto.
Day 258 • Crowd Control
But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. So Pilate decided to grant their demand. He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.

Pontius Pilate was the big cheese in Judea. He reported directly to the emperor in Rome. Pilate made all the decisions about prisoners, crimes, and laws in Judea. The Jews brought Jesus to Pilate hoping that Pilate would kill Jesus. But Pilate was a smart man. He investigated Jesus and found nothing wrong. The Jews still wanted Jesus dead, and they did not give up. They pressured Pilate for so long that he finally gave in. Pilate let them kill Jesus.
Pilate’s situation was extreme, but pressure from a crowd (known as peer pressure) is hard for anyone to resist. Even fearsome rulers can cave in to a crazy crowd of demanding people. As you get older, you’ll face peer pressure. In fact you probably already have, like when several kids gang up on someone else and push you to join in. When you are the only one saying “no,” it will be tough. But if you stick to your beliefs about right and wrong, you may give someone else the courage to say no too. Plus, that kind of strength comes from God. He’ll help you resist peer pressure.
Prayer
Jesus, I don’t want to get pulled into doing the wrong thing or hurting others because of peer pressure. Help me see when I need to walk away or stand up for what’s right.
