Tú has sido justo en todo lo que nos ha sucedido, porque actúas con fidelidad. Nosotros, en cambio, actuamos con maldad.
(NEHEMÍAS 9.33)
¿Por qué nos cuesta tanto reconocer que hemos actuado mal? A los israelitas les ocurría lo mismo. En cuanto algo no les iba bien o cuando querían que él hiciera algo al respecto, les resultaba bien fácil hacérselo saber a Dios. Sin embargo, cuando metían la pata no eran muy sinceros. Sabían que habían tomado numerosas decisiones equivocadas en el pasado. Podían ver cuándo mintieron o adoraron a otros dioses. Cuando lo consideraron de un modo más serio, supieron que habían cometido muchos errores, mientras que Dios había hecho muchas cosas bien.
En lugar de mirar siempre o creer en las cosas que queremos que Dios haga, echar una buena mirada a nuestra propia vida y ser sincero con él nos ayuda mucho.
Mentí a mis padres.
No estudié para ese examen.
No fui muy amable con mi hermano.
Si somos sinceros, también podemos sentirnos agradecidos de que Dios no sea como nosotros; él no miente nunca. Ha hecho cosas buenas, incluso cuando nosotros hemos metido la pata. Un poco de sinceridad por nuestra parte mejorará en gran manera nuestra relación con él y con los demás.
Oración
Señor, perdóname por lo que he hecho erróneamente, y ayúdame a valorar la sinceridad. Te ruego que me recuerdes todo lo que has hecho bien.
Day 254 • What Did You Do?
In all that has happened to us, you have remained righteous; you have acted faithfully, while we acted wickedly.
(NEHEMIAH 9:33)
Why is it so hard to admit when we’re wrong? The Israelites were the same way. They were great about letting God know when life wasn’t going their way and they wanted him to do something about it. But they weren’t very honest when they messed up. The Israelites knew they’d made a lot of bad decisions in their past. They could see where they lied or worshipped other gods. When they took a really close look, they could see that they had done a lot of things wrong, while God had done a lot of things right.
Instead of always looking or thinking about things we want God to do, it helps to take a good look at our own lives and be honest with him.
I lied to my parents.
I didn’t study for that test.
I wasn’t very nice to my brother.
As we are honest, we can also be thankful that God isn’t like us—he never lies. He has done good things, even while we’ve messed up. A little honesty from us will go a long way in improving our relationship with him and with others.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for what I’ve done wrong, and help me to value honesty. Please remind me of all that you’ve done right.
