Los acosadores están por todas partes, en el vecindario, en la escuela, y hasta en la iglesia. Algunos niños intentan demostrar su dureza molestando a otros chicos más bajos, menos atléticos o menos inteligentes. Las peleas en el campo de fútbol son una escena familiar durante los recesos o después de la escuela. No es la clase de conflictos de los que se hablan en las noticias de la noche, pero estas escaramuzas de primera línea son igual de reales.
El salmista tenía sus propias batallas con los acosadores. Ser un tipo bueno y piadoso no le eximía de las personas problemáticas. Sabía que vivir en un mundo quebrantado incluye vivir con personas rotas que les hacen la vida imposible a otros. No obstante, también sabía adónde recurrir cuando las granadas verbales y los puños volantes lo encontraban. Acudía al Señor. Invocaba a su Padre celestial para que lo protegiera.
A ’ios le importa verte cegado por los acosadores. Ya que tú le perteneces, él tiene un interés personal en protegerte. Te proporcio nará el valor de estar firme cuando te apetecería escapar corriendo. Puedes contar con ello. Lo único que tienes que hacer es clamar a él
Oración
Señor, me siento alentado por las palabras del salmista. Él fue totalmente sincero contigo cuando le estaban atacando. No fingía que todo iba bien. Yo tampoco lo haré.
Day 232 • Bullied
Rescue me, LORD, from evildoers; protect me from the violent, who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.
(PSALM 140:1–2)
Bullies are everywhere—in the neighborhood, at school, and even at church. Some kids try to prove their toughness by picking on kids who are shorter, less athletic, or less intelligent. Battles on the ball field are a familiar scene during recess or after school. It isn’t the kind of war reported on the nightly news, but these frontline skirmishes are just as real.
The psalmist had his own battles with bullies. Being a good and godly guy didn’t exempt him from problem people. He knew that living in a broken world includes living with broken people who make life miserable for others. But he also knew where to turn when verbal grenades and flying fists found him. He turned to the Lord. He called on his heavenly Father to protect him.
God cares when you’re blindsided by bullies. Because you belong to him, he has a personal interest in protecting you. He will give you the courage to stand when you feel like running away. You can count on that. All you have to do is call out to him.
Prayer
Lord, I’m encouraged by the words of the psalmist. He was totally honest with you when he was being attacked. He didn’t pretend everything was okay. Neither will I.
