En toda película de superhéroes el bueno lo pasa mal. El malo está constantemente molestándolo. El bueno no tiene tanto dinero ni tantos juguetes fantásticos ni un reluciente uniforme como el villano. Solo al final triunfa por fin el superhéroe. La parte inicial y la de en medio suele pertenecerle al malo.
¿Y qué pasa con esto? Después de todo, nuestros padres nos enseñaron que si obedecemos las reglas divinas, suceden cosas buenas. Por otra parte, no somos inmunes a las consecuencias del pecado de otras personas.
A medida que nos vamos haciendo mayores aprendemos que nuestros padres no pueden controlar el mundo. No están ahí cuando vamos a la escuela, al entrenamiento de baloncesto, a casa de los amigos, o incluso al grupo de jóvenes. Y, de repente, seguir todas las leyes de Dios —ser amable, respetuoso, sincero— no significa que nuestra vida queda libre de problemas de manera automática.
En realidad, algunas cosas difíciles ocurren, ¡porque estamos escuchando al Señor! ¿Recuerdas toda la aflicción a la que se enfrentó el rey David? Como él, sigue obedeciéndole a Dios. En la tierra nadie tiene una vida sin problemas, porque el pecado está por todas partes. Sin embargo, obedecer a Dios pone su bondad y su amistad de tu parte. Y, aunque los chicos malos puedan tener ventaja durante un poco de tiempo, al final siempre gana Dios.
Oración
Jesús, me canso de recibir golpes. A veces me pregunto si no habría sido más fácil seguir a la multitud. Te ruego que me des la fuerza para no tirar la toalla y el valor para seguir detrás de ti aun cuando sea difícil.
Day 225 • Tough Stuff
You are my portion, LORD; I have promised to obey your words.
(PSALM 119:57)
In every superhero movie, the good guy has a tough time. The bad guy is constantly bugging him. The good guy doesn’t have as much money, as many cool toys, or as flashy a uniform as the villain. Only in the end does the superhero finally triumph. The beginning and middle often belong to the bad guy.
What’s up with that? After all, our parents teach us that if we obey God’s rules, then good things happen. On the other hand, we aren’t immune from the consequences of other people’s sin.
As we get older, we learn that our parents can’t control the world. They’re not there when we go to school, basketball practice, friends’ houses, or even youth group. And suddenly, following all God’s laws—being kind, respectful, honest—doesn’t automatically mean our lives are problem-free.
In fact, sometimes hard things happen because we are listening to the Lord! Remember all the trouble King David faced? Just like David, keep obeying God. On Earth, no one gets a problem-free life, because sin is everywhere. But obeying God brings his goodness and friendship to your side. And even though the bad guys might be ahead for a little while, God always wins in the end.
Prayer
Getting bashed wears me out, Jesus. Sometimes I wonder if it would be easier to follow the crowd. Please give me strength to not give in and the courage to keep following you when it’s hard.
