Puesto que él mismo sufrió la tentación, es poderoso para ayudar a los que son tentados. (HEBREOS 2.18, RVC)
La rivalidad entre hermanos debe de haber sido bastante intensa en la familia de Jesús. Medirse a un primogénito perfecto no pudo ser fácil para sus hermanos y hermanas. ¿Puedes imaginar los comentarios de parientes y vecinos? «Jacobo, ¿por qué no te comportas como Jesús?» o «Simón, ¿te portarás alguna vez como tu hermano?». Jesús debió poner el listón muy alto.
Jesús fue sin pecado desde su nacimiento, pero esto no significa que no quisiera pecar jamás. Tal vez pensaría en llamarle la atención a ese niño aburrido de la Escuela Sabática. Era completamente Dios, pero también completamente humano, y esto significa que seguía conociendo la fuerza de la tentación.
Jesús sabe exactamente cómo se siente uno cuando es tentado. No se trata de ninguna deidad lejana que no comprende por lo que estamos pasando. Entiende cuando queremos pecar de verdad, porque él se enfrentó a situaciones similares.
Por tanto, la próxima vez que te apetezca ir contra las directrices de Dios, respira hondo. Haz una pausa y ora. Recuerda que tienes acceso a alguien que ya ha estado allí y que ya lo ha hecho. Pide la ayuda de Jesús; una vez él tuvo tu misma edad. Él está más que dispuesto a ayudarte a ganar las mismas luchas a las que él se enfrentó antes.
Como hermano mayor perfecto, no te lo echará en cara.
Oración
Jesús, ¡es tan bueno saber que me comprendes! Gracias por tu fuerza cuando quiero desviarme y por tu gracia cuando lo estropeo todo. Quiero que tu presencia sea más fuerte que mi próxima tentación.
Day 220 • He Gets It
Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
(HEBREWS 2:18)
Sibling rivalry must have been pretty intense in Jesus’ household. With a perfect firstborn, measuring up couldn’t have been easy for his brothers and sisters. Can you imagine the comments from relatives and neighbors? “James, why can’t you behave like Jesus?” or “Simon, will you ever get it together like your brother?” Jesus had to be a tough act to follow.
Jesus was sinless from birth, but that doesn’t mean that he never wanted to sin. He may have thought about snapping at the annoying kid in Sabbath School. He was fully God, but also fully human, meaning he still knew the pull of temptation.
Jesus knows exactly how it feels to be tempted. He isn’t some distant deity who doesn’t get what we’re going through. He understands when we really, really want to sin, because he faced similar situations.
So the next time you feel like going against God’s guidelines, take a deep breath. Pause and pray. Remember, you have access to someone who’s been there, done that. Ask for Jesus’ help; he was your age once. He is more than willing to help you win the very fights he faced before.
As the perfect older brother, he won’t even rub it in your face.
Prayer
Jesus, it’s so good to know you understand me. Thank you for your strength when I want to stray and your grace when I blow it. I want your presence to be stronger than my next temptation.
