Pero el fruto del Espíritu es amor, gozo, paz, paciencia, benignidad, bondad, fe, mansedumbre, templanza. Contra tales cosas no hay ley.

Toda buena granja tiene sus cultivos —maíz, girasoles, trigo, semillas de soja—, y estos dependen del clima y de la tierra. Pero las cosechas no crecen de la noche a la mañana. El agricultor no sale y planta la semilla un día y después recoge algún maíz maduro al siguiente. Tienen que transcurrir meses para que el maíz crezca con la adecuada cantidad de sol y agua.
Del mismo modo que las cosechas, nuestro carácter requiere tiempo para crecer. Es fácil pensar que deberíamos ser amables, buenos, fieles y tiernos en el mismo instante en que le pedimos a Dios que nos salve del pecado y que cambie nuestra vida. Pensamos: «Si soy cristiano debería ser perfectamente bueno en todos los ámbitos».
Sin embargo, no es así como se desarrollan las cosas. El amor, el gozo, la paz y la bondad crecen en nosotros conforme pasamos tiempo con Jesús y leemos la Biblia. Entonces crecerá el fruto del Espíritu. Nuestra tarea consiste en hacer nuestra parte, pero dejando que Dios sea el agricultor que lo ayuda a crecer dentro de nuestro corazón.
Oración
Señor, ayúdame a hacer mi parte —pasar tiempo contigo, conversar y leer la Biblia—, para que tu fruto crezca en mi corazón.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
(GALATIANS 5:22–23)
Every good farm has crops—corn, sunflowers, wheat, soybeans—and the crops depend on the climate and soil. But crops don’t grow overnight. The farmer doesn’t go out and plant the seed one day and then pick some fully ripe corn the next. It takes months for the corn to grow with the right amount of sunshine and water.
Just like crops, our character takes time to grow. It’s easy to think that we should be kind, good, faithful, and gentle the minute we ask God to save us from sin and change our lives. “If I am a Christian,” we think, “I should be perfectly good in every way.”
But that’s not how it works. Love, joy, peace, and kindness grow in us as we spend time with Jesus and read the Bible. Then the fruit of the Spirit will grow. It’s our job to do our part but let God be the farmer that helps it to grow inside our hearts.
Prayer
Lord, help me to do my part—to spend time with you, talk to you, and read the Bible—so that your fruit will grow in my heart.
