La Biblia compara el crecimiento espiritual a una semilla, un edificio y un niño en periodo de crecimiento. Las semillas deben plantarse y regarse, los edificios deben construirse; no aparecen por sí solos. Y los niños deben comer y hacer ejercicio para crecer. Pero adivina quién es el encargado de que tú crezcas. Tú no. Es el Espíritu Santo.
No puedes reproducir el carácter de Jesús por tus propias fuerzas. Con las mejores intenciones o con desearlo firmemente no basta. Solo el Espíritu Santo tiene el poder de llevar a cabo los cambios que Dios quiere. A esto se le llama «santificación».
La mayor parte del tiempo el poder del Espíritu Santo viene a tu vida de manera silenciosa, hasta el punto de que ni siquiera eres consciente de ello ni lo puedes sentir. Con frecuencia te da un pequeño codazo con «un susurro apacible» (1 Reyes 19.12). ¿Cómo sucede esto en la vida real? Por medio de las elecciones que hacemos. Escogemos actuar de forma diferente y depender de su Espíritu para que nos ayude a hacerlo en realidad. Antes de saberlo estarás creciendo firme y seguro.
Oración
Señor, ayúdame a tomar las decisiones que te complazcan. Sé que no puedo conseguirlo por mí mismo, pero el Espíritu Santo me proporciona la sabiduría y la fuerza para actuar de un modo distinto. Gracias por el Espíritu Santo que obra en mi vida.
Day 203 • Holy Spirit Help
We … are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
(2 CORINTHIANS 3:18, ESV)
The Bible compares spiritual growth to a seed, a building, and a child growing up. Seeds must be planted and watered, buildings must be constructed; they don’t just appear. And children must eat and exercise to grow. But guess whose job it is to grow you? Not yours. It’s the Holy Spirit’s.
You cannot reproduce the character of Jesus on your own strength. Best intentions or wishing really, really hard are not enough. Only the Holy Spirit has the power to make the changes God wants. This is called “sanctification.”
Most of the time the Holy Spirit’s power comes into your life in quiet ways you aren’t even aware of and can’t feel. He often nudges with “a gentle whisper” (1 Kings 19:12). How does this happen in real life? Through the choices we make. We choose to do the right thing and then trust God’s Spirit to give us his power, love, faith, and wisdom to do it. We choose to act differently and depend on his Spirit to help us actually do it. Before you know it, you’re growing strong and sure.
Prayer
God, help me make choices that are pleasing to you. I know I can’t do it by myself, but the Holy Spirit gives me the wisdom and strength to act differently. Thank you for the Holy Spirit working in my life.
