¿Tengo autocontrol?
¿A qué cosas le dices “no” cuando eres adolescente? ¿Le dices que no a tus padres, a tus hermanos o a cualquier otra figura de autoridad? ¿Le dices que no a tus entrenadores cuando sientes que te están presionando demasiado en la cancha de baloncesto? ¿Alguna vez has dicho que no a tus profesores cuando te piden que leas en clase? ¿Alguna vez les has dicho “no” a tus amigos cuando intentan convencerte de que bebas, fumes o consumas drogas con ellos?
La Biblia dice que se supone que debes decir “no” a la impiedad y “no” a las pasiones mundanas. Este versículo de la Biblia también dice que debemos tener dominio propio y hacer lo mejor que podamos para vivir una vida que agrade a Dios. Decir “no” a tener relaciones sexuales antes del matrimonio, beber alcohol siendo menor de edad, fumar o consumir drogas requiere disciplina y autocontrol. Decir “no” a todas esas cosas significa que conoces la diferencia entre el bien y el mal. Si desarrollas un sentido del bien y del mal a una edad temprana, también te ayudará a saber la diferencia entre el bien y el mal más adelante en tu vida. Si dices “no” a las cosas impías cuando eres adolescente y a lo largo de tu vida, estás honrando a Dios.
La próxima vez que quieras decir sí a las tendencias impías, di esta oración: “Señor, por favor ayúdame a tener dominio propio y decir ‘no’ a las tendencias impías”.
Self-Control
“It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age…”

Do I have self-control?
What things do you say “no” to as a teenager? Do you say no to your parents, your siblings, or any other authority figures? Do you say no to your coaches when you feel they’re pushing you too hard on the basketball court? Do you ever say no to your teachers when they ask you to read in class? Have you ever told your friends “no” when they try to convince you to drink, smoke, or do drugs with them?
The Bible says that you’re supposed to say “no” to ungodliness and say “no” to worldly passions. This Bible verse also says to have self-control and to do your best to live a life that’s pleasing to God. Saying “no” to having sex before marriage, drinking underage, smoking, or doing drugs requires discipline and self-control. Saying “no” to all of those things means you know the difference between right and wrong. If you develop a sense of right and wrong at a young age, it will help you know the difference between right and wrong later in your life too. If you say “no” to ungodly things as a teen and throughout your life, you’re honoring God.
The next time you want to say yes to ungodly tendencies, say this prayer: “Lord, please help me to have self-control and say ‘no’ to ungodly tendencies.”
