WHAT TO DO WITH BURDENS
Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail).
—PSALM 55:22 AMPC
The Israelites were commanded to keep one day each week—the seventh day—as a day of complete rest. On that day, they could do no work nor carry any burdens in or out of their homes. This rest was a type and shadow of the true rest that God offers us today (Hebrews 4:9).
The true rest of God is not offered to one race of people for one day a week, but it is offered to all those who believe in Jesus Christ, and it is available for every moment of every day. Sabbath rest includes the absence of burden bearing. Just as we are invited to cast our sin on the Lord, we are also invited to cast our care on Him. Let me encourage you to shut the door to all the burdensome thoughts that come to your mind and to be at peace.
Sadly, burden bearing through worry dishonors God. He wants us to demonstrate our trust in Him by casting our cares and burdens on Him and experiencing His faithfulness in caring for us.
Prayer:
“Father, I am sorry for all the times I carry burdens that You have invited me to cast on You. Grant me the grace to release each burden that tries to enter my soul and steal my peace. Thank You for helping me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
