El proceso de maduración espiritual es excitante en muchos aspectos. Nos sentimos felices cuando estamos cerca de Dios. Nos sentimos fuertes cuando nuestra confianza en él es alta. Nos complacemos de ser capaces de elegir la paz en lugar de preocuparnos, a medida que nos establecemos sólidamente en nuestra fe, y experimentamos gozo en la presencia de Dios. Pero alcanzar la madurez espiritual tiene sus desafíos y el versículo de hoy menciona uno de ellos.
Uno de los pasos para crecer espiritualmente es negarse a sí mismos. Nunca he conocido a alguien que disfrute negarse a sí mismo, pero para seguir a Jesús, debemos disciplinarnos para hacerlo. Negarnos a nosotros mismos requiere, entre otras cosas, seguir la voluntad de Dios aun cuando no la entendamos y prefiriéramos no obedecerle. También requiere superar actitudes impías, incomodarnos a nosotros mismos con el fin de ayudar a quien lo necesite, poner a un lado nuestros deseos personales o planes para atender a un llamado de Dios a realizar los que nos pida, y alinear nuestros pensamientos y palabras con los pensamientos y palabras que Dios nos haría pensar y hablar. Requiere que perdonemos a quienes nos han perjudicado y rezar y ser amables con nuestros enemigos.
Seguir a Jesús no es siempre fácil, pero siempre trae enormes recompensas.
Oración:
“Padre, ayúdame a estar dispuesto a negarme a mí mismo y a renunciar a cualquier cosa que me pidas que sacrifique, con el fin de seguirte. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén”.
A NECESSARY STEP IN SPIRITUAL MATURITY
Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”

The process of spiritual maturity is exciting in many ways. We feel happy when we feel close to God. We feel strong when our confidence in Him is high. We enjoy being able to choose peace instead of worry as we become more established in our faith, and we experience joy in His presence. But becoming spiritually mature also has its challenges and today’s scripture addresses one of them.
One of the steps of spiritual growth is to deny ourselves. I’ve never met anyone who enjoyed self-denial, but in order to follow Jesus, we must discipline ourselves to do it. Denying ourselves involves—but is not limited to—doing God’s will when we do not understand it and when we would rather not obey Him. It also includes overcoming ungodly attitudes, inconveniencing ourselves in order to help someone in need, putting aside our personal desires or plans to do something God is calling us to do, and aligning our thoughts and words with the way God would have us think and speak. It involves forgiving those who have hurt us and praying for and being kind to our enemies.
Following Jesus is not always easy, but it always has great rewards.

“Father, make me willing to die to myself and to give up anything You ask me to sacrifice in order to follow You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
