Sin hacer distinción alguna entre nosotros y ellos, purificó sus corazones por la fe.

¿Tienes prejuicios? Si nunca has pensado dos veces en el color de la piel de alguien, ¡fantástico! Sin embargo, tratar a las personas de forma diferente, por culpa del color de su piel no es la única forma de tener prejuicios. Sentir que eres mejor que los demás es también una forma de prejuicio. Puedes creer que el niño del vecino que se educa en casa no está a la altura de tus aptitudes en los concursos de Biblia. O tal vez no puedas creer por qué la familia de una manzana más abajo se viste para ir a la iglesia. Resulta fácil tratar a estos individuos o grupos como marginales, incluso en la iglesia.
Esto es lo que estaba sucediendo en la iglesia primitiva. Pablo había estado compartiendo sobre Jesús, por todas partes, con personas que no eran judías. Sorprendentemente, estaban aceptando a Jesús como su Salvador. Pero los cristianos judíos no estaban tan contentos. Tenían un problema para considerar a los gentiles como iguales a ellos. En lo que concernía a los creyentes judíos, los otros cristianos eran ciudadanos de segunda clase en el Reino de Dios. Esa forma de pensar volvía loco a Pablo.
Es probable que el niño que asiste a una iglesia coreana no adore exactamente como tú lo haces. No obstante, le ha pedido a Jesús que entre en su corazón por fe, y es parte de la familia de Dios. Tu tarea consiste en tratarlo con respeto y cordialidad. Después de todo, en la familia de Dios, él es tu hermano.
Oración
Señor, soy culpable de creerme mejor que aquellos que no piensan como yo. Lo siento. Ayúdame a ser un amigo de todo aquel que sea tu amigo.
Day 353 – Squashing Prejudice
He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith.
(ACTS 15:9)
Are you prejudiced? If you never think twice about the color of someone’s skin, great! But treating people differently because of their skin color is not the only way to be prejudiced. Feeling like you are better than others is also a form of prejudice. You may think that neighbor kid who is homeschooled doesn’t measure up to your Bible quiz skills. Or you can’t believe how the family down the block dresses for church. It’s easy to treat that individual or group as an outcast—even at church.
That’s what was going on in the early Church. Paul had been sharing about Jesus with non-Jewish people all over the place. Amazingly, they were accepting Jesus as their Savior. But the Jewish Christians weren’t so happy. They had a problem seeing the Gentiles as equal to themselves. As far as the Jewish believers were concerned, non-Jews were second-class citizens in the Kingdom of God. That kind of thinking drove Paul crazy.
The kid who goes to a Korean church probably doesn’t worship exactly the way you do. But if he has asked Jesus into his heart by faith, he is part of the family of God. Your job is to treat him with respect and friendliness. After all, in the family of God, he is your brother.
Prayer
Lord, I’m guilty of thinking I’m better than those who don’t think the way I do. I’m sorry. Help me to be a friend to everyone who is your friend.
