Un joven llamado Eutico, que estaba sentado en una ventana, comenzó a dormirse mientras Pablo alargaba su discurso. Cuando se quedó profundamente dormido, se cayó desde el tercer piso y lo recogieron muerto. Pablo bajó, se echó sobre el joven y lo abrazó. «¡No se alarmen! —les dijo—. ¡Está vivo!».

Eutico, un joven originario de una ciudad costera llamada Troas, estaba escuchando predicar a Pablo. Pero empezó a sentirse somnoliento. Mientras Pablo seguía hablando, el joven sintió más y más sueño. Finamente, en torno a la media noche, Eutico se quedó profundamente dormido.
Sin embargo, no había escogido el mejor lugar para dormir: el borde de una ventana del tercer piso. El pobre Eutico cayó de la ventana y murió. Pablo, el Predicador Asesino corrió escaleras abajo, rodeó el cuerpo muerto del muchacho ¡y lo devolvió a la vida con el poder de Dios!
Como Creador nuestro, Dios conoce íntimamente nuestro cuerpo. Sabe cuántas calorías necesitamos, cuánta agua deberíamos beber y cuántas horas de sueño requiere nuestro cerebro. De modo que cuando Eutico se quedó dormido —haciendo aquello para lo que estaba diseñado— Dios no estaba enojado.
En vez de ello, el Señor miró el corazón de Eutico. Vio la forma en que el muchacho escuchaba a Pablo hablar sobre Jesús y cómo había permanecido allí cuando podría haberse ido a su casa.
Oración
Señor, cuando sienta la tentación de «demostrar» mi cristianismo a otros, detenme. No quiero acumular puntos con los demás: quiero que tú seas mi mejor amigo.
Day 346 – He Sees It All
Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!”
(ACTS 20:9–10)
Eutychus, a young man from a coastal town called Troas, was listening to Paul preach. But he started getting drowsy. As Paul kept talking, Eutychus felt sleepier and sleepier. Finally, around midnight, Eutychus completely fell asleep.
He hadn’t picked the best snoozing spot, though—a third-story window ledge. Poor Eutychus fell out the window to his death. Paul the Killer Preacher ran downstairs, put his arms around Eutychus’ dead body, and brought him back to life with God’s power!
As our Creator, God intimately knows our bodies. He knows how many calories we need, how much water we should drink, and how many hours of sleep our brains require. So when Eutychus fell asleep—doing what he was designed to do—God wasn’t angry.
Instead, the Lord looked at Eutychus’ heart. He saw the way the young man listened to Paul talking about Jesus and how he stayed even when he could have gone home.
Prayer
God, when I am tempted to “prove” my Christianity to others, stop me. I don’t want to rack up points with others — I want you to be my best friend.
