Cada vez que desees ser otra persona, tener lo que otros poseen o hacer lo que ellos hacen, es como si estuvieras diciendo: «¡Señor, cometiste una terrible equivocación conmigo! Deberías haberme hecho mejor. Podrías haberme creado como esa persona, ¡pero no lo hiciste! ¿Por qué metiste la pata conmigo? ¡Si yo fuera Dios, me habría hecho más como esa persona!». La envidia es un insulto a Dios. En realidad es una forma de rebeldía espiritual que se basa en la ignorancia y en el orgullo. Da por sentado que tú tienes un plan mejor que el de tu Creador, para tu vida. ¿De verdad lo crees?
La envidia es una actitud tan destructiva que Dios la menciona en los Diez Mandamientos: «No codiciarás». La codicia es otro nombre para la envidia o celos. Dios nos prohíbe terminantemente que envidiemos lo que otros poseen, su aspecto, lo que logran y quiénes son, porque sabe el daño que hace la codicia. Cuando notes que la envidia se desliza dentro de tu corazón, vuelve tu mente hacia la bondad el amor de Dios. Él sabe qué es lo mejor para ti.
Oración
¡Señor, tú me amas tanto! Me hiciste exactamente como querías que fuera. La próxima vez que sienta envidia, ayúdame a enfocarme en eso en lugar de en las cosas que no poseo.
Day 339 – The Tenth Commandment
I observed that the basic motive for success is the driving force of envy and jealousy! But this, too, is foolishness, chasing the wind.

Every time you wish you were someone else, have what they have, or do what they do, it’s like you’re saying, “God, you made a huge mistake with me! You could have done better. You could have made me like that person, but you didn’t! Why did you mess up with me? If I were God, I would have made me more like that person!”
Jealousy is an insult to God. It’s actually a form of spiritual rebellion based on ignorance and pride. It assumes that you have a better plan for your life than your Creator does. Do you really believe that?
Jealousy is such a destructive attitude that God outlawed it in the Ten Commandments: “You shall not covet.” Coveting is another word for jealousy or envy. God absolutely prohibits us from envying what others have, how they look, what they accomplish, and who they are, because he knows the damage envy does. When you notice envy creeping into your heart, turn your mind toward God’s goodness and love. He knows what’s best for you.
Prayer
God, you love me so much. You made me exactly the way you want me to be. The next time I get jealous, help me focus on that instead of the things I don’t have.
