Pero también nos alegra tener que sufrir, porque sabemos que así aprenderemos a soportar el sufrimiento.

¿Has deseado alguna vez deshacerte de un maestro malvado o de un niño molesto? ¡Deberías, pues, sentirte feliz! Sin embargo, la verdad es que aunque te libraras de esos problemas surgirían otros. El gozo consiste en disfrutar de la vida a pesar de los problemas. El gozo no es la ausencia de sufrimiento, sino la presencia de Dios. Esta es la razón por la que Pablo nos indica que nos regocijemos en el sufrimiento, porque Dios está siempre con nosotros.
Pablo no está diciendo que deberías fingir. No está hablando de tener siempre en el rostro una sonrisa de plástico, fingir que todo está bien y actuar como si no pasara nada malo. Dios no quiere que seas falso. No está diciendo que nos regocijemos, por nuestro sufrimiento. Ni siquiera sugiere que disfrutemos del padecimiento. Nos instruye que nos gocemos en él, porque sabemos que detrás de ello hay un propósito. Los cristianos pueden ser positivos incluso en una situación negativa, porque sabemos que Dios tiene una razón para permitir ese problema en concreto.
Oración
Señor, gracias porque hay un propósito detrás de todas las cosas que atravieso, aunque yo no lo entienda o no lo sepa. Gracias porque puedo ser real contigo y mostrar todas mis emociones. ¡Tú me amas y yo hallo gozo en ello!
Day 228 • Real Joy
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us learn to be patient.
(ROMANS 5:3, TLB)
Ever wish you could get rid of a mean teacher or annoying kid? Then you’d be happy! But the truth is, even if you got rid of those problems, other ones will come up. Joy is enjoying life in spite of problems. Joy is not the absence of suffering but the presence of God. That is why Paul says we rejoice in suffering, because God is always with us.
Paul is not saying you should fake it. He is not talking about putting a plastic smile on your face, pretending everything is okay, and acting as if nothing is wrong. God does not want you to be fake. He is not saying we rejoice because of our suffering. He is not even saying we enjoy suffering. He is saying we rejoice in it because we know there’s a purpose behind it. Christians can be positive even in a negative situation because we know God has a reason for allowing that problem.
Prayer
God, thank you that there’s a purpose behind everything I go through, even if I don’t understand or know it. Thank you that I can be real with you and show all my emotions. You love me, and I find joy in that!
