Un joven afirma que jamás trabajará para la reina malvada. Entonces esta le ofrece una poción mágica que resuelve cualquier problema; sin embargo, tiene que hacerle un pequeño favor a la reina. La familia del muchacho es tan pobre que un poco de dinero le vendría bien para volver a empezar sus vidas y sabe que el bebedizo lo ayudará a conseguirlo. Por tanto accede; solo por esta vez. ¿El resto de la historia? Ya sabes cómo sigue: Acepta una y otra vez y se va hundiendo cada vez más en el reinado malvado de la reina.
Aunque las reinas malvadas son para los cuentos de hada, podrías enfrentarte a tentaciones similares. A medida que vayas creciendo tendrás amigos, compañeros de clase y tal vez miembros de tu familia que intentarán convencerte de que dejes a un lado lo bueno y lo malo. Descifrarán qué es lo que más te motiva: dinero, poder, popularidad, oportunidades, etc. Después lo usarán para hacerte transigir, solo una vez, por algo que de verdad necesitas o quieres.
Transigir o comprometerse a algo resulta difícil la primera vez, desafiante la segunda, y no tan malo la tercera; después de esto, ni te importará. Deja claro que sigues los principios de Dios que son más valiosos que ninguna otra cosa que cualquier otra persona pudiera ofrecerte.
Oración Señor, veo lo fácil que sería aceptar hacer algo llevado por el sentimiento de desesperación por algo que se quiere. Necesito tu sabiduría para conocer mis debilidades y cuidarme de otros que intenten apartarme de tus caminos
Day 204 • No Compromise
To show partiality is not good—yet a person will do wrong for a piece of bread.
(PROVERBS 28:21)
A young man says he will never work for the evil queen. Then the evil queen offers the young man a magic potion that will solve any problem—but he has to do one small favor for the queen. The guy’s family is so poor that he could really use some money to restart their lives and knows the potion will help him get it. So he agrees—just this once. The rest of the story? You know how it goes: He makes more compromises and gets in too deep with the queen’s evil rule.
Though evil queens are for fairy tales, you could still face similar temptations. As you grow up, you will have friends, classmates, and maybe family members try to persuade you to set aside what’s right and wrong. They will figure out what motivates you: money, power, popularity, opportunities, etc. Then they will use that to get you to compromise just once for something you really need or want.
Compromise is hard once, slightly challenging twice, not so bad the third time—after that, you won’t even care. Make it clear that you follow God’s standards, which are more valuable than anything someone else could offer you.
Prayer
Lord, I see how feeling desperate for something could make it easy to compromise. I need your wisdom to know my weaknesses and beware of others who will try to get me to turn from your ways.
