Algo sorprendente ocurrió entre los creyentes en la iglesia primitiva el día de Pentecostés. La Biblia explica vívidamente lo que sucedió: “Y de repente vino del cielo un estruendo como de un viento recio que soplaba, el cual llenó toda la casa donde estaban sentados; y se les aparecieron lenguas repartidas, como de fuego, asentándose sobre cada uno de ellos” (Hechos 2:2-3).
Cuando el Espíritu Santo llenó a las personas, ellas recibieron un lenguaje espiritual que sus mentes no podían comprender (Hechos 2:4) conocido como el don de las lenguas. Las personas que fueron testigos de este evento y habían ido de visita a Jerusalén desde otros países y escucharon a los creyentes hablar en sus idiomas nativos, a pesar de que los creyentes nunca habían aprendido esos idiomas. Esto fue un gran milagro, pero es apenas uno de los muchos milagros que el Espíritu Santo puede hacer. El poder de Dios obra a través del Espíritu Santo y cuando él nos llena, ese poder fluye a través de nosotros.
Creo que todo el que confía en Jesús como su Salvador, recibe el Espíritu Santo. También creo que necesitamos estar llenos del Espíritu Santo continuamente, tal como lo indica el versículo de hoy. En la versión original, el verbo usado para “llenos” significa “llenados continuamente”. Este es el deseo de Dios para aquellos de nosotros que caminemos con Él, y eso brinda mucho poder y gracia a nuestra experiencia cristiana.

FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

Something amazing happened among the believers in the early church on the day of Pentecost. The Amplified Bible explains vividly what happened: “And suddenly a sound came from heaven like a rushing violent wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were being distributed [among them], and they rested on each one of them [as each person received the Holy Spirit]” (Acts 2:2–3).
When the people were filled with the Holy Spirit, they received a spiritual language that their minds could not comprehend (Acts 2:4), known as the gift of tongues. People who witnessed this and were visiting Jerusalem from other countries actually heard the believers speaking in their native languages, even though the believers had never learned those languages. This was a great miracle, but it is only one of many miracles the Holy Spirit can do. The power of God works through the Holy Spirit, and when He fills us, that power flows through us too.
I believe that everyone who trusts Jesus as Savior receives the Holy Spirit. I also believe we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit in an ongoing way, as today’s scripture indicates. In its original language, the verb used for be filled means to be continually filled. This is God’s desire for those of us who walk with Him, and it brings much power and grace to our Christian experience.
