El que no ama, no ha conocido a Dios; porque Dios es amor.

Dios es amor y su amor fue derramado en nuestros corazones por el Espíritu Santo (Romanos 5:5). Él quiere que fluya a través de nosotros hacia los demás.
Recientemente alguien me preguntó: “¿qué es el amor?”. Es una palabra que usamos frecuentemente, pero inapropiadamente. Decimos que amamos el helado o nuestro auto nuevo, la luz del sol, a Dios e incontables otras cosas. Pero el tipo de amor del que habla la Biblia no puede ser aplicado a un helado o a un auto. El amor de Dios es paciente y amable; no es envidioso; no es orgulloso o jactancioso; no deshonra a otros y no es egoísta o se enoja con facilidad. El amor no conserva un récord de nuestros errores; se regocija en la verdad y siempre protégé; cree lo mejor de todos, siempre tiene esperanza y nunca se da por vencido. El amor nunca falla (1 Corintios 13:4-8).
Dios demuestra su amor por nosotros por la forma en que nos trata y nosotros mostramos nuestro amor por los demás, por cómo los tratamos a ellos. He escuchado y repetido esto muchas veces: las personas no siempre recuerdan lo que les dijiste, pero siempre recuerdan cómo les hiciste sentir. Dios nos ha dado la habilidad de hacer que todos los que contactemos se sientan apreciados y especiales, y deberíamos esforzarnos por hacerlo. Es fácil amar a quienes te aman o hacen lo que tú quieres que ellos hagan, pero es mucho más difícil amar a un enemigo o a alguien que te ha decepcionado.
Jesús nos dio un nuevo mandamiento: amar a los otros cómo él nos amó (Juan 13:34). Siempre que te relaciones con gente, pregúntate qué haría Jesús y cómo los trataría y sigue sus pasos.
Oración:
“Padre, sé que amarte a ti y amar a los demás es tu mayor mandamiento. Me arrepiento por todas las veces que fallé en cumplirlo. Perdóname; ayúdame a crecer en el tipo de amor que tú me das. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén”.
WHAT IS LOVE?
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
—1 JOHN 4:8
God is love, and His love is poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). We have God’s love inside of us, and God wants it to flow through us to others.
Someone recently asked me, “What is love?” It is a word that we use frequently but inappropriately. We say we love ice cream, our new car, sunshine, God, and countless other things. But the kind of love the Bible talks about cannot be applied to ice cream or a car. The love of God is patient and kind; it is not envious; it is not proud or boastful; it does not dishonor others and is not self-seeking nor easily angered. Love keeps no record of wrongs; it rejoices in truth, it always protects, it believes the best of everyone, it always hopes, and it never gives up. Love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:4–8).
God demonstrates His love for us through the way He treats us, and we show our love for others through the way we treat them. I have heard and repeated this often: People don’t always remember what you said to them, but they always remember how you made them feel. We have the God-given ability to make everyone we meet feel valued and special, and we should endeavor to do so. It is easy to love those who love you or do what you want them to do, but it’s much more difficult to love an enemy or someone who has disappointed you.
Jesus gave us one new command—to love others as He has loved us (John 13:34). In all your dealings with people, ask yourself what Jesus would do and how He would treat them, and follow in His steps.

“Father, I know that loving You and loving others is Your highest command. I am sorry for all the times I have failed to do so. Forgive me, help me grow in the kind of love You give to me, and give me a greater desire and ability to give it to others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
